Dr. Whitehead was recently recognized in the
August Issue of Urology Times for his work in penis enlargement
surgery. A copy of the article follows:
IN THE PUBLIC EYE
Penile enlargement called 'safe and effective'
Penile enlargement may be a taboo subject, but
E. Douglas Whitehead, MD, says this form of cosmetic surgery
is very common now.
"Penile enlargement, if performed by a qualified
and experienced surgeon and realistic expectations are stressed,
is safe and effective," said Dr. Whitehead, associate clinical
professor of urology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine,
New York, and president of the American Academy of Phalloplasty
Surgeons. "And as far as the 'cosmetic' issue goes, if a woman
who feels her breasts are unattractive can take advantage of
the numerous options in cosmetic breast surgery from augmentation
to reduction to lifting, why can't a man have the same cosmetic
options in terms of penile enhancement?"
Enhancement phalloplasty and girth enhancement
have been discussed in the literature for many years and have
been in use for about a decade. In Dr. Whitehead's practice, patients
either have a lengthening or widening alone, or a lengthening
and widening in a single session. Dr. Whitehead uses only Allograft Dermal Matrix
Grafts (Alloderm®) that he considers state of the art. The technique
is very safe and has a very high success rate, he said.
